PODs was Great! I really enjoyed the world that Michelle Pickett created in PODs! I felt it brought something new and fresh to the zombies genre! Though, I did have some small problems with it, but nothing major. I'll get into that a little later.

Michelle wrote this story remarkably! I was glued to the pages, longing for more! I really, really, liked the main character Eva! She was amazing from the first page. Her character grew with the book, and it made her feel more real. She matured when the world forced her to. She was strong, determined, stubborn, funny, caring, and put others before herself! She had the best character traits that love in my female character!

Another thing I really enjoyed was the romance between Eva and David. I didn't feel that their romance was rushed, or forced. It felt real, and genuine. I really felt the love they had for each other, and that they were willing to do anything they need to keep their love going strong. Even in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse they manged to still love each other to the fullest and not let anything stand in their way. Whether it be the government, zombies or other survivors. They were determined to love each other no matter what! I loved it, and at some parts I even pushed back tears, when their love was tested and pushed to the breaking point! Michelle, you really know how to create the most lively, refreshing, heart-throbbing romances! Definitely a big part in the book that I loved!

Plot:

A virus has come out of nowhere, infecting people, and creating major chaos. When the virus first surfaced, it infected people, getting them sick, then eventually killing them. There was no cure or antidote, no medicine to help with the virus, and no way to stop or even slow it down. And it was moving to fast, infecting populations everywhere, sweeping through every country, and slowly wiping them out! The human species was on the brink of extinction. Something had to be done, or the whole human race would be no more.

So the government introduced The PODs system. The PODs were underground habitats designed to provide protection from an Extinction Level Event. So that's where the humans would stay to wait out the virus.

And then there was hope!

But there's a catch!

There is not enough room for the whole Human Population!

Some will be left up top, to...DIE!!!

ONLY the CHOSEN will survive!

The government said they'll make it fair by doing a raffle. Every who is "Eligible" for entry to the PODs, social security numbers would be entered into a data base, then they would be drawn at random, and the ones picked by the random data would become the Chosen, and would be going to the Underground PODs. With ONLY SEVENTY THOUSANDS spots open, most of the world will die!

Their Plan? They go underground for about a year, and let the ones up top die, then, when their is no host for the virus to live in, the virus would die, and the ones that survived underground would come up to an virus free world, and start over.

Or so they thought....

Eva is one of the chosen to live underground to wait out the virus. Like everyone else living in the PODs, she has lost everyone, and everything she has ever loved. She and the other eight or nine people that are confined the their SUB-POD for a year or more, have nothing but time to wait while their love ones up top die!

Eva meets David while in her SUB-POD and they eventually fall for each other. But when she finally finds something worth living for, the PODs are opened, and she is yet again ripped from the one she loves! David is assigned to a different Sector in compound, (What Above Ground Is Now Called). And their is no contact between Sectors.

Eva just can't get a break! But she's determined to find her way back into Davids loving arms! But when she finally does risk everything and finds David, she is faced with the horrible truth that the government has been hiding from them! Their was survivors! But not just survivors, their is also the ones that survived, but was also infected and didn't die, and now their changed...They've mutated into flesh-craving monsters that only want to eat anything alive, and there everywhere, hunting for their next meal. If Eva and David are not careful, they just might become the main course!

So for Eva and David its an everyday fight for survival against the infected and other survivors. And if that's not enough they have to constantly be on the move to avoid welcomed visitors! Its rough, and with their groups numbers slowly dwindling, they'll be lucky if they make it out alive!

Doesn't that sound good? It was! BUT like I said earlier in the review, I did have some small problems with this book.

One of the problems I had with the PODs is that we didn't see or hear about a single zombie until about 100 pgs. to the end of the book!!! I really wanted MORE Zombies!! But at the same time I liked getting to see how everything played out from the beginning of the virus to the world that it is now! With a lot of other zombie books (And Alien Books) we don't get to see how it stated only the aftermath. And I really enjoyed getting all of it! But I just wish we were able to see more zombies, but I have a feeling the next book is going to bring more zombies, and a faster-paced adventure then the first!

My second problem with this book was that it was very slow! For most of the book their really wasn't that much of action. I like my books faced-paced with action and adventure around every corner. Sadly that was not the case with PODs. The last 100 or so pages were more fast-paced with zombies, but I still wished we had more time with Eva and David out of the PODs, running from Zombies. But even with the lack of action in the beginning, I was still able to stay glued to the pages, yearning to see what's coming!

Overall, PODS was a very good book, that kept me up late at night reading, lost in the scary truth of what are world could be. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series, and I will be reading more from this author!

PODs Michelle K Pickett Books Reviews

When a deadly virus sweeps through the world, the U.S. government chooses a select few citizens to be a part of the POD program. Eva is one of the lucky ones. She will live in the POD for a year until the virus is contained and then emerge to help rebuild society. But she must leave behind her parents and friends and everything she's ever known in life. It is with much reluctance that she agrees to go and finds herself falling in love with one of her POD mates David. After over a year, they are allowed to leave, but it's not to a new world of possibilities. The government has taken control of all their lives, dictating where the survivors live and what they do. And the virus hasn't died out, but mutated, creating a race of zombies. It seems the program that brought Eva and David together is now determined to tear them apart and they may not survive together in the new world.

I'm not always a big fan of books, movies, TV shows with zombies in them because frankly they kind of freak me out. However, Michelle Pickett's PODs was so full of rich characters and heartfelt emotions that enduring the zombies was well worth it. Right from the start I was so emotionally connected to Eva and her plight. Her fear was my fear; her heartache was my heartache. This onslaught of emotions, along with a tight, fast-paced plot, pulled me through the story and made it hard for me to put it down. A winner from Michelle Pickett!
Eva never expected to become a chosen one. Once her number is drawn, Eva's life is changed and she is forced into the POD system to live for a year or more until the virus is gone. But she's stuck living with eleven strangers, knowing that everyone left on the surface is dying. She never expected to fall in love with David, in fact she didn't want to date at all. But David changed that. He's everything she thought she lost when the virus began attacking. When they emerge from the POD, they discover something dark. The virus isn't gone and the survivors are not the same. Eva tries to fit into the new system, but she cannot. It's all too much and danger is always lurking around the corner. Eva and David struggle to find a place in a world that isn't the one they once loved.

The relationship between Eva and David is sweet and romantic. I do think in the beginning, it felt a bit out of nowhere and awkward, but they are teenagers and it's never like the movies, especially when you are living in close quarters while escaping death. I really enjoyed how Eva interacts with David and her devotion towards him. David definitely falls on my list of book crushes. I did want a little more depth to the relationship in parts, but it felt fairly realistic.

PODs is a fast-paced and thrilling novel, complete with romance and a unique storyline! The beginning captured my attention and I read it in one sitting. I enjoyed how Michelle wrote about what happened in the POD instead of just skipping a year ahead into the future. They didn't just sit around and watch movies. Bad things happened, though I won't ruin them for you. She also did a good job of showing how frustrating it could be to be stuck with some people. There was one character in particular I felt like slapping and shoving out an air vent. The reader also experiences a great deal of suspicion about the government and the POD system. I was skeptical. The ending (no spoilers) leaves the readers waiting for book 2. I know I will be anxiously counting down until the next one. )
