What a great way to spend the time between Christmas and New Year's. Was sorry to see the story end. The plot was full of surprises and twisted turns. Non-stop intrigue and suspense. This is one of those rare books where you didn't want to miss a thing. The author's ability to create each locale in such detail was especially good. I enjoy 'visiting' places I'll probably never see. The characters were completely believable -distinct and intriguing. According to the jacket, this is Mr. Seaver's first fiction novel. I'm counting on more.

The Fourth Rule Douglass Seaver 9781610091565 Books Reviews

Seaver takes you into the mind of each character before you know what's happening. He keeps one step in front of the reader at all times. Just as you think you have figured it all out, Seaver drops the floor out from under you. A good read, but still a mystery. Let's look forward to the sequels.
Why would the CIA look for a Vietnam veteran twenty-two years after he disappeared? Matthew Grant in The Fourth Rule works against the clock to solve the mystery and protect his daughter without revealing his secrets in this taut political thriller. This novel starts with a bang and roars along through various plot twists. Those who remember Vietnam will especially identify with Mr. Grant and his tortured memories and secrets.
Mark served as a Green Beret in Vietnam and shortly after returning, disappears. His younger brother, Matthew, admits to having spent time with him after his return, but claims to know nothing of his disappearance. Twenty-two years later, rogue CIA agent, Jack Straw, is on the hunt for Mark and he believes that Matthew knows the truth.

I received an eARC from BookBuzz.net, via NetGalley for an honest review.

Ok, so this book got off to a great start and I was hooked from the beginning, but once I got about halfway through I couldn’t put it down! I usually prefer a book written in the first person, but Seaver does such a great job narrating this story in the personality of the characters that you forget that it’s not first person. The majority of the book is written with Matthews personality, but when Jack shows up there is an instant change in the voice. Loved it!

Although this is a mystery with action and political controversy, the characters were pretty realistic. Matthew is an all around good guy, smart, professional, good looking… but still very human. Robin is a beautiful, career driven reporter, but not cold. Jack may be a little over the top, but hey, he’s the villain. I did, however, find the dialog a bit forced at times and the fact that the FBI allows Matthew so much control during the investigation was unrealistic. Overall, a really good, edge of your seat book. Thank you BookBuzz.net!

The Fourth Rule grabs you from the first page on. The writing is unique, different and interesting and the story develops perfectly.
A MUST read! I'd like to see more from this author!
The Fourth Rule captivated my interest immediately and kept me reading at a fast pace to the end. It was the complexity of the characters and their emotional struggles that made them vivid and alive. The twist at the end caught me by surprise and made me rethink the series of events to solve this secret. Well done Douglass Seaver. Waiting for your next release.
This is a really fun book to read. A real thriller, with fast-paced tension and interesting characters. It had lots of twists and turns, with a big one at the end that felt very satisfying. I'd love to read more from this author.
Doug is a classmate of mine and I really enjoyed the references to places and things that we knew and did as young adults woven into the story. We really are a sum of our experiences. The story held my attention from beginning to end. What more can you ask for in a novel? And, the story was different from the run of the mill thriller.
Well done Doug. .
